Culver City, California (June 1, 2017) – Educational technology leader, XAP Corporation (XAP), today announced the results of their 2017 “Prepare for the Future” scholarship contest which was open to 7th through 12th grade student users of Transitions – a state-sponsored career and education planning system operating in multiple states.
Through their Transitions account, each contestant completed activities that encouraged career exploration and helped identify college and career plans. More than 2,250 students from California to Rhode Island participated.
A total of 10 winners were selected through a random draw. One student winner was selected from each participating state, and awarded a $250.00 scholarship.
The winners shared their thoughts about how the exercises helped them think about their future, and they provided a range of feedback with comments, such as:
- “These exercises helped me realize that I needed to become more responsible by applying for more scholarships.”
- “Thank you for the opportunity to be able to explore these options for free and expand my knowledge.”
- “In writing my goals, I have a clear plan for how to make college a reality. I look forward to the upcoming years ahead of me.”
- “The exercises helped point me in the right direction, showed me traits about myself, and helped me find career paths the suit me.”
Eddie Monnier, Chief Executive Officer of XAP Corporation, said “The high-level of participation and positive feedback from students demonstrates that students are willing to focus on these important decisions sooner rather than later when provided with the right tools and resources. Transitions was designed to help guide students through the process to research career and college options so they can make an informed decision about their career pathway.”
Students in the 7th through 10th grades completed exercises that focused on long-term planning. They completed activities that explored personal interests and work values, and then matched their interest and values with careers. They also created a career plan to help connect how work and learning contribute to the future life they want.
Students in the 11th and 12th grades completed college-planning activities. Each contestant explored at least three programs and majors and then selected three favorite majors; explored three colleges they would be interested in attending that offered one of the preferred majors; and selected at least one scholarship resource. In addition, each had to write a “looking ahead” goal about how they plan to attend college.
The students saved their completed exercises in their online Portfolio in Transitions, and they can make changes at any time.
